Day 16 - We're halfway there :) Back to Bodypump

So, Day 16 of Dry January......I'm over half way through the month ....and I have to admit, I am not missing sitting down with a large glass of red wine. I thought I would miss coming home and relaxing with a wine at the end of a hard week.....but it really isn't bothering me.
Waking up fresh as a daisy is great. And I am starting to see my efforts paying off.....and I'm getting compliments about my weight loss which is always a great boost.
I honestly feel like a new person......even after the second session at Bodypump !!! I must admit I was scared as to how I would feel after the second session.....but tonights was all about the upper body rather than focussing on the lower body like last week. I feel like I will be able to walk okay in the morning ( unlike last week ) .... but I guess time will tell.

Day 9 - Bodypump

So, the January fitness regime continues! After spending Saturday AND Sunday morning in the gym, there's no rest for the wicked! Helen and I ventured to Bodypump class! First time - didn't know what to expect! Well - I'm now speechless! Great class but I fear how much I will ache tomorrow - but no pain, no gain they say! All I need now is a large glass of Shiraz - opps I mean a nice cuppa before that hike up the stairs to bed! Dreading what the morning will bring!!!

Day 3 of Dry January

So, today was back to work day! Its always the hardest day of the year as the Christmas holidays are always the best :) Anyway, the main thing I wanted to do was come home and chill out on the sofa watching TV with a glass of wine! But that won't help me lose weight! So Dry January continues and a trip to the gym was required !!!
I really didn't feel like going as I was shattered and had a headache - but I went and actually enjoyed it :) Tonight was different as we went to a ladies only class with an instructor to give us some guidance! And I have to admit, I left there feeling as if I had really worked out - and now i'm looking forward to going tomorrow :)

A summary of 2011

Well, another year has passed us by !!! Where did it go?!?!?

I've been looking back not only through my odd couple of blog posts, but facebook albums and my 2011 diary.
Wow - was 2011 a busy year.
January started off quite slowly - chilled out ... quite literally with snow etc !!!
Then February came - highlights included Lifehouse cancelling a show the night before we were due to see them. Ric and I went to Wembley to see Arsenal v Birmingham in the Carling Cup. Blues won and the whole place erupted. Was such a great day. Luckily, Lifehouse played the night before the match, so we managed to get tickets to see them ( with a lot of mishaps and mistakes on the venues part .... not that I'm complaining, as I got free tickets for a later gig out of it , and another trip to London )

We were back watching Birmingham in March for the West Brom game and then we attended the Civic Reception the following day and saw the players parading the Carling Cup around the pitch :)
Dave and Andrea also returned from their travels, so while we were in Brum, we caught up with them and celebrated Brett's birthday with a house party :)

April arrived and the girlies visited Spavens in Mold to celebrate Louise's birthday. Spavens is a sweet shop. You take your own booze, decorate some ceramics.....then you get to go around the sweet shop filling your tub to the top with as many sweets as you can squeeze in. But it doesn't end there.....you then get to help yourself to ice cream and enjoy a pancake. It really makes you feel like being a kid again :) Needless to say,we visited a couple more times during the year :)
Easter was nice and relaxed with a family day trip to Barmouth with Ric, Charlie, Gareth and Joss :) We spent the day on the beach, flying kites and making sandcastles. Fish and Chips on the beach and a paddle in the sea....April really was like being a kid again.

May is the best month of the year - my birthday :) This year I had the pleasure of Brett, Denise and Matthew visiting. We took them to Llangollen via Trevor ;) and enjoyed a lovely meal and a catch up :)

Gareth turned 30 the following week and Ric took part in the Brueton Park Z Team for the Knowle Fun Run :)
The running continued for Ric in May as he completed the Llandudno 10 mile too. I just don't know how he does it.
May ended with a trip to Birmingham then on to Oxford to visit the lovely Katie and Matt. We visited their lovely new flat and had a wander around Oxford. It seemed like a lovely city - but it poured down with rain the whole day. But Matt found us a great pub that served excellent food - so who cared about the rain when we had great food, great company and a glass of wine :)
Ric and I stayed over in Oxford and the following day we headed home via the Cotswolds. We visited Bourton on the Water - I used to love the place when I was little. The way the river runs through the village with all the little bridges to cross. It's such a quaint little place.

June then turned in to a busy month - highlight being the Take That tour :) I was very lucky to bag three tickets for myself, Gaynor and Katie. So we set off on our roadtrip with the TT playlist on the iPod :) Pet Shop Boys supported.....I wasn't impressed when I discovered they were the support......but I have to admit, I did enjoy them.

The whole TT gig was brilliant - from start to finish ..... it was just over sooooo soon. The Iron man style robot was brilliant....but temperemental - so we didn't get to see the full effects but it didn't ruin the evening.

The following day Ric and I headed to Birmingham as we had tickets to see Lifehouse.....the rescheduled gig from February :) The set was pretty much the same as the Feb show we saw in London, but Jason was much more himself and the band were awesome. We actually managed to get a great spot right down the front too - happy days.

The following weekend, Ric and I found ourselves back in London - this time to see Three Doors Down. After the whole mishap debacle at the Lifehouse show, I complained to the venue and they offered me two tickets for a show of my choice, so I chose 3DD. And we weren't disppointed. It was the first time I saw the band live, and they were just brilliant. They put on such a great show.

June was finished off with another trip to Spavens for Emma's birthday and July began with a competition win day out. I managed to win tickets to Chester Rocks. It's the first time they've held a festival style event at the racecourse in Chester. I won the first day pop band tickets.....so we got to see Sugababes, Eliza Doolittle, McFly, Taio Cruz, The Saturdays ..... and The Wanted. And I have to admit, The Wanted were really good. So much so that Helen and I are taking Kira to see them in February - can't wait.

July also saw us attend and take part in the first birthday celebration of Brueton parkrun ..... even I did it and got myself a shiny medal :)
Then the end of the month, we went to Bolton for the weekend, and supported Brett during his Iron Man event.

August started with a trip to Huddersfield to celebrate the 40th Birthday of Jason. A great night was had seeing friends, and finally watching Helter Skelter :)

Then later in the month Ric and I travelled to Bristol ..... Ric took part in the Newport Parkrun, we travelled to Weston Super Mare, and Barry Island .... yes Gavin and Stacey land.....it was lush :)

August ended with seeing Birmingham play in Europe against Nacional.

September was another busy month with a trip to Spavens, Ric ran the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon, I finally saw the TTB in Mold ......and X Factor nights began with Helen & Kira :)

October saw Ric complete yet another run - this time the Flintshire 10k in Mold for Nightingale House.  The month turned in to a busy one. I took up swimming, I visited a psychic, Ric ran in Manchester's Heaton Park with Nick and Larry and we finally saw Puddle of Mudd live. Turned out to be a bit of a crap gig as Wes was off his face....but still good to finally see POM after all these years....and in Wrexham of all places.
Continuing with the hectic times, the girlies visited Denbigh and watch Mike Andrew....a Robbie tribute act and Ric ran the Birmingham Half Marathon. The month ended with Ric graduating

and a Halloween gathering at Helen & Kira's. Dunking apples and trying to find sweets hidden in bowls of jelly was hilarious :)

November - We attended yet another footie match, a day out to Leamington Spa, saw Brett completing his 50th Parkrun, I attended the ULR Conference in Newport and got to chat with Jamie Baulch. I went out with the girlies to see Back for Good ( Take That tribute ) at Glyndwr. Ric ran in the Conwy Half Marathon with Nick and Larry.

I went a wandering for a couple of hours and walked the walls and took lots of pictures. The month ended with me and Jane seeing Alter Bridge in Manchester.

December - I ventured to Liverpool with Charlie....and we saw the Coca Cola truck.

Helen and I joined the gym.......I got to see Joss in his first Nativity play. Ric and I went to Birmingham and visited the Sea Life centre (another competition win ),and German markets. We then headed to London to celebrate the 30th Birthday of our good friend, Nicola. We got to catch up with other friends on the evening too :)

The girls came over for a festive Christmas sleepover while Ric went to Birmingham for Dave's 30th and we ended the month with Christmas celebrations in Birmingham including Christmas Day parkrun.

All in all it's been a great year......let's hope my blog post this time next year will be just as full of highlights :)

Sunday 28 August 2011

Where has the time gone?

The last time I blogged was in March !!! Where has the time gone?!?!?
I'm either out and about - getting up to some sort of mischief or at home catching up with my Sky planner or competitions. I think I'm addicted - but a friend of mine just won a great holiday to the States and so many great prizes are available. I have a little-ish list of prizes I'd love to win, and will persist until at least some of the list is checked off ;)

Anyway, what else have I been up to? Well, I completed my very first parkrun :

It was knackering - but I felt really great after it. And of course, all the friends I have at Brueton supported me as I went around the course :) It hasn't encouraged me to take up running - but it has spurred me on with my weight loss and encouraged me to keep up the exercise :)
Thanks Brueton parkrun.

May was my birthday - and not only did I get spoilt by my family and friends, but Denise, Brett and Matthew came to stay which was great :)
The start of June, we had Dave and Andrea visit for the weekend which was great, then it was gig time :) No gigs for months then they all arrive at once.

First up was Take That - Oh my God, I didn't really get excited at first as so much had been going on, but once the tour started, I couldn't wait. June 11th came.....and we were off. I picked up Gaynor and Katie and we headed up the M56 to Manchester. Great day. Lunch in the city then headed back to the ground to take in the atmosphere and queue up to get a decent spot :) We had seats but they were unreserved, so we queued to get in and get a good seat :) Gig was awesome. Great to see all five back together again - I think it was just depressing when I realised its nearly 20 years since I first saw them together !!!!
Getting out of Manchester was fun - took me over 90 minutes just to get to Picadilly station. But once I hit the  motorway it was plain sailing all the way home.
Lie in the next day ?!?! Not a chance. We had tickets for Lifehouse in Birmingham which got rescheduled from earlier in the year when Jason was ill. So off we headed up the M6 to Birmingham. Got a bite to eat and some drinks and headed to the venue, HMV Institute. Great venue. Very tiny....and we ended up right down the front with a great view :)
Lifehouse didn't disappoint - they played over 90 minutes ..... and came onstage earlier than normal, which helped us as we had to do the 90 minute drive home to Wrexham after the gig !!! Rock n Roll eh :)

When we were in London for the Carling cup - Ric and I managed to get tickets for Lifehouse at the Roundhouse in Camden ( but to cut a long story short, there was a seating saga/mix up - so I complained, and they gave me free tickets to a gig of my choice.......) So fast forward to June, and here we are, heading off to London to see Three Doors Down :) Flying visit for the weekend......so we didn't have much chance to do lots of sightseeing.
But the gig was great and I got to meet up with Claudi ( fellow gig lover ).

Then came July - and not only another gig.....but a free one again.....and it was a competition win .....and it was local :) Chester Rocks. First festival held in Chester. I won two tickets for the Saturday gig, so we got to see Eliza Doolittle, The Sugababes, The Saturdays, The Wanted and McFly. We had a great day out and I am now converted to The Wanted. When they hit the stage I thought they were gonna be crap and that the kids would just be going mental.....but they were awesome :)

July ended with us visiting Bolton to support our friend , Brett Patten in the 2011 Iron Man competition. Absolutely brutal, but he did brilliantly, and came in at 14 hours 41 minutes ( I think ). Well done Brett :)
And now we move on to our August adventures :)
Ric and I decided to break up the summer months by having a week off in August this year. We found a deal for three nights in Bristol. So off we headed on Friday 12th. We drove to Bath first, and spent the day there before heading up to the hotel. Lovely country hotel.
Next day we drove to Newport. Ric's been itching to try another parkrun, and was hoping to take part in the Bristol one - but due to the Balloon Festival taking place, it was cancelled for the weekend we were there. So to cut a long story short, we looked elsewhere and settled on Newport ( with the plan of heading to Barry Island afterwards ).

So off we set at 8am to Newport.....and over the bridge. No longer £5.10pence, it's now £5.70 .... scandalous.
Anyway, we paid the toll, found the park and Ric completed his run. Quick change, then it was off to Barry :) We found it pretty easily. Had a walk along the front by the beach, popped to Marco's for a brew and the enquired about the Gavin and Stacey tour.
We were told there was only one space left - but that if we waited for the coach to arrive, Brenda may be able to get us on.  So we waited around for a bit, then headed passed the fun fair to Barry Island station. The coach arrived and luckily she managed to squeeze us on. We were on the actual Dave's Coaches :) It was brill it was !

First stop was the Caravan park where Nessa and Dave lived in Series 3 with Neil.... the Baby :)

Then we went to the Church where Neil the Baby was Christened. The whole time we were in there, I kept visualising Doris sitting behind the drums by the alter.
From there we went to the pub that they used to film the scenes after the Christening and we had a drink in there and a Gavin and Stacey quiz :)

Then it was on to Gwen's house. We were told that the lady who owns the house suffers with depression and just loves for fans to go in and visit her. When the bus turned the corner, I honestly thought it wasn't going to get up the hill. It was soooooo steep.
It did manage to get up the hill and we all headed in to Gwen's :)

Inside, Glenda who owns the house was lovely. She told us about how her house was chosen to be Gwen's house. She let us go upstairs to see Stacey's room, and she even had a frying pan out in the kitchen for an omlette photo :) And we even got to go in to the back yard and look for Dick Powell.
The final part of the trip was back to the Island where we got to visit Nessa's slots and Boofy's chippie :)

It was a long day - but a great day. We got back to the hotel very shattered, but it was worth it for such a great day out.
Next day we went to Weston Super Mare for the day. We checked out the Grand Pier which has all been done out last year after the fire. Then on the way back we called in Clevedon and had a walk along the beach. Another great day out :) Squeezing every drop out of the trip :)

Monday was time to come home, so we detoured to Stourport for a late breakfast and a walk along the river. Then another detour up to Lake Vyrnwy as Ric has signed up for the half marathon so we thought we'd go and check it out. Some great scenery up there. I shall be very happy on the day wandering around with my camera and sitting on a bench with my book :)

The rest of our week off was fairly chilled - but with another day trip to Port Sunlight and New Brighton  :)

Phew, that was longer than I expected. I always say to myself, I should do a blog and put it off ..... but after having to type all of this up, I shall definitely be blogging more in the future.

Until next time .... xx

Sunday 20 March 2011

Quiet times? What are they?

In the last few weeks, I’ve gone from enjoying chilled out time to having a mad busy hectic time.
So what have Mr Westwood and I been up to? Well, we had the whole scenario with applying for Wembley tickets to see Birmingham play Arsenal in the Carling Cup. Ric called up to book tickets, ended up in a queue for over three hours…..but had to get to work. So muggins here took the afternoon off to take over from him……and got cut off !!!! Long story ….. But I made a few calls, along with a couple of pleas, and I managed to get us tickets. Top whack, but great seats….and Ric came home a happy man…..with a bunch of flowers for me.
So then, we come to the end of the month and we head to Birmingham with the intention of seeing Lifehouse……only to hear that Jason Wade is sick and the Birmingham show is cancelled……so Plan B was put in to action and we headed to the Action Replay gig instead. We also got to catch up with Andrea and Dave who has just returned from twelve months travelling the world.
Then the following day was Mother In Law Denise’s birthday, so enjoyed a lovely meal out with her and Clive followed by a visit to see Auntie Val. And of course a Westwood - Bayliss birthday celebration just isn’t complete without a buffet in the evening.

Then came the weekend……an early start to get the train to London…..a catch up with Gary aka senwoD the druid at New Street Station….and then a wet start when we arrived in London.
We headed straight for Chalk Farm and managed to get some tickets for the Lifehouse gig that evening. As the Brum one was cancelled and we were in London, and at a loose end, it just seemed the perfect opportunity
A drink at Camden Lock, spot of lunch then check in at the hotel - Premier Inn London Kensington (Earls Court ). Definitely recommend it. Cheap ( for London ) and very convenient……will definitely stay there again.
Freshened up - we headed out to Ripleys Believe It Or Not in Picadilly Circus. Weird and wonderful place with lots of strange artefacts and exhibits…..but the highlight had to be the final part when you walk through a tunnel with a visual effect that makes it seem like you are turning in the tunnel. A strange but hilarious experience !!!

Then it was time to head back to Camden and the Roundhouse. Lovely venue…..but some fun and games. We were given seats T86 and T87. When we found our seats…..one of them didn’t exist. So a trek around the building to locate a member of staff ensued, and we were moved to slightly better seats……It pays to complain !!!!
The support band came on about 8pm……Jim Stapely. Really nice guy. Great opener, got the crowd warmed up. I will be checking out more from this guy in the future. Lifehouse hit the stage about 9pm and played for nearly two hours. Jason put so much effort in to it and considering he had been ill, he certainly didn’t let the audience down.
We were treated to an acoustic set in the middle of the show……and were lucky enough to hear Jason play You Belong To Me from Shrek which he informed us has hardly been played live.
The guys left to a rapturous applause from the audience after nearly two hours on stage.
Now the journey back to the hotel. Wasn’t too bad, quite straight forward. After a long day we hit the pillows ready for another long day ahead of us on Sunday.

Cup Final Day arrived. We got up, showered, devoured the buffet breakfast then put the Blues shirts on and headed up for our day out at Wem-ber-ley J
We arrived about 12pm and under instructions from my professional Wembley visitor brother, we walked around the outside of the ground and took in the atmosphere of the day.
We purchased a programme in the Wembley shop - but they’d sold out of Birmingham City scarves….they had loads of Arsenal ones left…..but the Blues fans had cleaned them out !!!!
By this time, I was cold and wet and ready to go find my seat…..and the gates were about to open - so perfect timing.
We made our way in to the ground……and found scarves on sale inside. I had to purchase one as I was freezing. Along with my scarf I purchased a couple of teas to warm us up and we headed for our seats !!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant seats …… and so they bloody should be after what we paid for them !!!!

The whole afternoon was brilliant. The blues fans turned up early - and even got a mention for doing so.
The build up to the game began and the atmosphere began to build up.
4pm came and the game kicked off. Ric had told me we’d probably stand for the first few minutes then we’d sit down until there was some action near the goal and everyone would jump up - but oh no, everyone stayed standing for the whole 90 minutes. I wont go in to detail about the game, partly as I don’t know what I’m on about - but mainly because it seems like a blur now. But when it got the final few minutes I was praying for them to score……Ric was just a bag of nerves…….and then it happened…….The Goal went in !!!! The place just erupted ….. I was speechless. The look on Ric’s face was just one of sheer relief.

Birmingham City had won the Carling Cup Final !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and the other highlight of the day was that we saw Ant and Dec at half time. They came out on to the pitch to film a penalty shootout for Push The Button.

Next up was the trip back to Central London. We had to queue up to get in to Wembley Park Station…..but the fans were happy as they’d won, so there was plenty of singing etc going on.
Some Arsenal fans got on and tried to wind people up but nothing could dampen the day now.
Once we got back, we freshened up then headed out for a celebratory meal and a drink or two at Pizza Express. We arrived back at the hotel in time to watch the highlights. Well Ric watched them…..I just fell asleep after the days excitement.

Monday came and it was time to head home…..seeing Blues fans along the way.
We arrived home mid afternoon and just flaked out !!!! Lucky old Ric booked the day after off….but I was back in work…..and had my college course in the evening too !!!!

Then once Friday came, there was no rest for the wicked, and we returned to Birmingham. This time for Parkrun on Saturday at Brueton in Solihull……followed by the Blues v West Brom game…..they lost which kinda dampened the atmosphere. The evening came and we headed to Brett and Denise’s for a birthday gathering for Brett.
It was a great night and we got to catch up with lots of friends….and have a few drinks too.
Sunday consisted of yet another trip to St Andrews….this time for the Civic Reception where the players walked round the pitch with the Cup. Was a bit of a let down as the ground wasn’t full…..and the players were swamped by press etc as they walked the ground…..but I was glad that we went anyway, for Ric.

And finally, it's now the end of another busy week ….. that’s contained more college, a ULR course at Colwyn Bay and a day out with Charlie, Joss and Ric walking round Ty Mawr. Its never ending.......but always great fun being busy busy.

Until next time

Saturday 12 February 2011

Quiet times

Well, we are mid way through February and it seems like so long ago since I last blogged.
There has been very little to report. Ric and I have just been working and chilling at home. No major trips out. Just living the simple life. Seeing family and friends and spending time with each other.

We should have been off to Birmingham for the weekend to see friends and family - but plans had to change as our landlord is sending someone round to sort out repairs etc this weekend.
So the next trip we make will be during our week off. We are heading to Brum first to see Lifehouse on Feb 23rd, then we are celebrating Ric's Mum's birthday and catching up with Dave and Andrea who are returning from their 12 month travels round the world. Then its off to London for the weekend. Hopefully we can get tickets to the Carling Cup Final :) Fingers crossed.

Nothing else to report. Ric has popped to the shop for some ingredients for his home made lasagne then its a night in front of the tele for us. Some great programmes have started, and we have a huge selection of DVDs that we are yet to watch.
Until next time :) x
